Located in Nanchang, the City of Hero, NCU consists of 4 campuses, which are Qian-Hu main campus, Qingshan-Hu, Dong-Hu, and Poyang-Hu campuses. Among them, the Qianhu main campus has an area of more than 228 hectares and a building area of 1.5 million square meters.
The history of NCU dates from Jiangxi Public Medical College and National Chung-cheng University, which were founded in 1921 and 1940 respectively. In 1993, Jiangxi University merged with Jiangxi Industrial University into Nanchang University, which created a precedent for the reform of the national higher education system. In 2005, NCU and Jiangxi Medical College merged to form the new NCU, unveiling a new page of reform and development. Over the years, leadership of the Central Party Committee and Central Government, the Ministry of Education, Jiangxi Provincial Party Committee, and the Provincial Government have attached great importance to the construction and development of NCU. “Nanchang University has unlimited prospects”, President XI Jinping said when he first visited NCU in October 2008. In February 2016, President Xi visited Nanchang University again and delivered an important speech on the roles of universities played in Scientific Research Innovation and Talent Cultivation. President Xi encouraged NCU to take a developing path of innovation and motivated the students to cherish time and let their dreams extend.
NCU hosts five major faculties which are: Faculty of Humanities, Faculty of Social Sciences, Faculty of Science & Technology (Division I), Faculty of Science & Technology (Division II), and Faculty of Medicine. It has 126 undergraduate programs with 12 subjects categories, 3 national key disciplines, 15 first-level subjects with doctor’s degree authorization,47 first-level subjects with master’s degree authorization, 1 kind of doctor’s professional degree authorization and 29 kinds of master’s professional degree authorization and 11 postdoctoral scientific research stations. NCU has five affiliated hospitals and 9 national clinical key specialist disciplines. The subjects of Chemistry, Clinical Medicine, Agricultural Sciences(mainly food science and engineering), Engineering and Materials Science, Pharmacology, Virology, and other six majors rank among the first 1% of ESI in the world, in which the subjects of Agricultural Sciences (mainly food science and engineering) rank among the first 1.79‰, Clinical Medicine rank among the first 3.7‰ and Chemistry rank among the first 4.8‰ of ESI in the world. In the national fourth-round of subject overall level assessment, the subject of Food Science and Engineering ranks in the 3rd place.

Campus
The university has three campuses with 139 hectares of land, located on Chengxi Road, Longhua Avenue, and West Coast. Currently, there are over 2299 faculty and staff, doctors and nurses in the university, among whom more than 157 are professors and 317 are associate professors.
About Hainan
Haikou, known as the ‘Coconut City’, is the capital of Hainan Province, China’s second largest island. The city features beautiful sunshine, crystal water, and soft sand. It is the provincial administrative center of Hainan as well being the focus of the local economy, culture, and transportation. It stands at the northern end of Hainan Island, on the west bank of the Nandu River estuary. This river is the longest on the island and the city’s name appropriately means ‘Mouth of the Sea’.
Haikou has evolved from a simple sightseeing city to an attractive seaside resort and business center. The services for visitors to the city are being extended with the aim of establishing the city as Southern China’s key center for tourism.
Administratively, Haikou is a prefecture-level city, comprising four districts, and covering 2,280 square kilometers (880 sq mi). There are 2,046,189 inhabitants in the built-up area all living within the 4 urban districts of the city.
Haikou was originally a port city. Today, more than half of the island’s total trade still goes through its ports.
Hainan Medical University (HMU) is located in Haikou, the capital city of Hainan Province in China. Founded in 1993, it is the only medical university directly under the Hainan Provincial government and approved by China’s Ministry of Education.
The current college was created in 1993 with the approval of the central government. In 1951, two private medical colleges were merged to form the Hainan Specialized Medical School. These two colleges were Haiqiang Medical Vocational School (created in 1947) and the Medical College of Hainan University (established in 1948).
In 1993, the college became the Hainan Medical College to reflect its specialization in medicine. In 1994, Hainan Medical College was accredited to offer bachelor’s degrees and in 1996 was accredited for undergraduate education by the Ministry of Education.
The University now offers 27 specialties in three different medical disciplines to undergraduates, including medicine, science and management and 21 specialties for a vocational program. The university hosts 15 schools and departments, e.g. School of Clinical Medicine, School of Vocational Education and School of International Education etc. There are 6 provincial key disciplines, 4 provincial key laboratories, 15 provincial excellent courses, and 3 provincial key courses. There are 80 teaching and internship bases and 4 affiliated hospitals, one of which is directly under the HMU. To date, HMU has enrolled over 12,000 Chinese students and more than 100 international students
Hainan Medical University enrolls international undergraduates on MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery) program, with English as the medium of teaching. The study duration of MBBS program is 6 years (including 1-year internship). Graduates who reach the qualification of graduation will be awarded “Diploma Certification” and graduates who reach the qualification of the Degree Rule will be awarded the Bachelor Degree of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery, MBBS.
The internship can be finished in Chinese hospitals or in hospitals of your own country. The program will be conducted on six months semester basis. Therefore the total academic semesters will be 10 to 11 including internship. The program will not only benefit the development of the higher medical education but also improve the cultural exchange and co-operation among the medical universities around the globe. Hainan Medical University provides South Asian teachers especially from Pakistan, India, and Nepal with MBBS and BDS program so as to provide high-quality education, advanced teaching equipment, co-operative administration and innovative teaching methodology.
NOTE: For the 2022 Intake, students will need to have an HSK-3 Chinese language proficiency level to get accepted for the English-taught MBBS program.
